Revelation 3:1-6 addresses the church in Sardis. They were known for their good works but they were strongly rebuked for being dead inside. In ancient Sardis, the early Christians chose to build their church in the shape of a hospital at the base of a pagan temple. They cared for the people that were injured in the grotesque rituals practiced at the temple and told them of Jesus. We were moved by the commitment of this early Christian community. They banded together in a culture saturated in depravity to reach the people around them. Our prayer is that SCCC can not only model the love Sardis had for their community but also take the words of Jesus’ rebuke to the Sardis Christians to heart. We hope to be a community that is just as alive with the love of Jesus internally as we are externally. We pray Jesus’ prayer over his disciples in John 17 over our community. We want our children to be so saturated in truth that they are equipped to go out into the world and be known for the difference they make. We will equip them with deep Biblical literacy, a strong understanding of history, logic, science, and literature as well the ability to see and worship God through art and nature. Students attend class three days a week with tutors and peers and spend two days a week at home with their parents for a 36 week school year with regular gatherings to expand learning.
